Protected areas in and adjacent to the territory of the Park

The Council Directive 92/43/EEC on the conservation of natural habitats and of wild fauna and flora is the first managerial act of United Europe aimed at establishing a uniform system for the conservation of the wildlife. The Directive introduced a system for the conservation of the nature in Europe through a uniform network of territories with special regime of protection – protected areas (PA). The Natura 2000 network aims at preserving and restoring the favorable environmental status of the natural habitats and of the flora and fauna species, which are important for the Community. The natural habitats, protected by Natura 2000, are listed in Appendix I of Council Directive 92/43/EEC and the Bulgarian Law on Biological Diversity. The borders of the Park cover the entire terrestrial territory of Strandja, protected area in accordance with Council Directive 92/43/EEC on conservation of natural habitat under code BG0001007.
